The Living Room Recovery Program at the Independence Center provides a safe comfortable, inviting environment where skilled Certified Recovery Support Specialists (CRSS) provide crisis intervention referrals and other needed services for guests experiencing a crisis. The Living Room is an alternative to the emergency room for guests with increased symptoms or near a crisis. The purpose is to:
· Offer a safe and positive environment where guests can go to for support and comfort.
· Assist guests with developing their coping skills for enhanced interpersonal and social skills.
· Help guests make meaningful changes in their lives.
· Support guests as they seek to develop and maintain a moderate living lifestyle.
To provide crisis respite to people
within a safe, inviting home like
atmosphere, persons who come to
The Living Room Recovery Program are treated and referred to as "guests". When arriving, each guest will be greeted by a member of our program staff, assessed for safety and asked preliminary information.
The guest is then paired up with a
peer counselor, who can talk them
through the immediate crisis, offering empathetic listening, practical solutions,
and additional resources.
Since The Living Room is in a comfortable non-clinical setting, a trained recovery support specialist will orient the guest to the facility and provide support while here.
The Living Room Recovery Program
offers a wide array of resources for
those experiencing increased
symptoms and/or a crisis.
Our goal is to help improve the quality of their lives while addressing their needs and preferences by providing the following:
· Crisis Intervention
· Referral/linkage
· Shower facilities
· Recreational activities

Any adult 18 years of age and over experiencing a crisis can come to The Living Room. Guests can leave at any point and there is no limit on the number of times they can visit.
